Engaging Young People in Stock Selection:

As part of 'Engaging Young People in Stock Selection' – a community library initiative aimed at involving young people in their local library. 20 children from Yr4 were given the opportunity to spend a budget of £600 on books for the local library. The children had to carefully select their books, review them and say why they thought they should be purchased. In particular the children focussed on books that supported literacy, maths and communication skills.

As part of the visit the children saw how books are processed into the library system. The children also put bookplates in the books explaining why they were purchased. We also had stories and songs and the session was rounded off with some local history information about the area and Glebe Farm Library.

Summer Reading Challenge:

Lea Forest Primary Academy and Glebe Farm Public Library have worked closely together to promote the 'Summer Reading Challenge' to our pupils. This national event encourages 'Reading for Pleasure' and helps the pupils retain their literacy skills during the summer break.

This years’ challenge was called 'Creepy House'; and to complete it the pupils challenged themselves to read 6 books and write 6 reviews or draw 6 pictures based on the books. We are delighted to say that 17 of our pupils were successful. Well done to them all! It was a super effort from the pupils of Lea Forest Primary Academy.
